Introduction: Revision total hip arthroplasty with use of cadaveric bone graft is an effective treatment for replacement procedures in patients with bone loss femoral or acetabular. The present study analyzed the postoperative results in patients who underwent surgery at the Hospital de Clínicas. Materials and methods: Descriptive study. Non-probabilistic sampling of consecutive cases treated at the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology of Hospital de Clínicas. Data of patients with indication for revision total hip arthroplasty plus cadaveric bone graft from a tissue bank with prior informed consent, were analyzed between December 2017 and October 2020. Results: 12 patients with femoral and acetabular bone deficits have been treated with revision total hip arthroplasty plus cadaveric bone graft from a tissue bank. A radiological and functional follow up was made. The male-female ratio was 1/1, with the preoperative diagnosis for placement of the revision prosthesis plus cadaveric bone graft, from the tissue bank, was septic loosening in 75%. The most frequent symptom was pain, all revision total hip arthroplasties were performed through a posterior approach, and the surgical time was an average of 116 minutes, using a later approach in all cases. Two intraoperative fracture was presented, and were resolved. Conclusion: Revision total hip arthroplasty plus allograft presents optimal results in relation to total osseointegration and functionality.

RESUMO

The rockpool shrimp Palaemon elegans is an ecologically important crustacean species within the European coastline fauna. In the present study, genetic diversity and population structure and connectivity were assessed by examining 21 polymorphic microsatellite loci at 13 sampling sites located along the natural distribution range. All localities showed similar levels of genetic variability. Significant deficits of heterozygosity were recorded, most likely due to the presence of null alleles. Genetic structure analyses revealed two clearly genetically distinct groups within P. elegans but without following any geographical or oceanographic basis. Thus, our results provided nuclear evidence for the existence of a Mediterranean cryptic species within P. elegans, highlighting the need to revise its taxonomic status. Regarding P. elegans sensu stricto, population structuring was reported across the Atlantic-Mediterranean transition area, where the Almería-Orán Front restricts the gene flow between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean population. Moreover, while population connectivity was suggested between all Mediterranean localities, some substructure was found within the Atlantic group. Canary Islands exhibited a weak but significant genetic differentiation from all Atlantic mainland localities, consistent with the isolation-by-distance pattern detected throughout the Atlantic population. Overall, all these findings provided new insights into the population biology of P. elegans complex.

RESUMO

Multilabel learning is a challenging task demanding scalable methods for large-scale data. Feature selection has shown to improve multilabel accuracy while defying the curse of dimensionality of high-dimensional scattered data. However, the increasing complexity of multilabel feature selection, especially on continuous features, requires new approaches to manage data effectively and efficiently in distributed computing environments. This article proposes a distributed model for mutual information (MI) adaptation on continuous features and multiple labels on Apache Spark. Two approaches are presented based on MI maximization, and minimum redundancy and maximum relevance. The former selects the subset of features that maximize the MI between the features and the labels, whereas the latter additionally minimizes the redundancy between the features. Experiments compare the distributed multilabel feature selection methods on 10 data sets and 12 metrics. Results validated through statistical analysis indicate that our methods outperform reference methods for distributed feature selection for multilabel data, while MIM also reduces the runtime in orders of magnitude.

RESUMO

The cobalt carbonate hydroxide Co2CO3(OH)2 is a technologically important solid which is used as a precursor for the synthesis of cobalt oxides in a wide range of applications. It also has relevance as a potential immobilizer of the toxic element cobalt in the natural environment, but its detailed crystal structure is so far unknown. The structure of Co2CO3(OH)2 has now been investigated using density functional theory (DFT) simulations and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) measurements on samples synthesized via deposition from aqueous solution. Two possible monoclinic phases are considered, with closely related but symmetrically different crystal structures, based on those of the minerals malachite [Cu2CO3(OH)2] and rosasite [Cu1.5Zn0.5CO3(OH)2], as well as an orthorhombic phase that can be seen as a common parent structure for the two monoclinic phases, and a triclinic phase with the structure of the mineral kolwezite [Cu1.34Co0.66CO3(OH)2]. The DFT simulations predict that the rosasite-like and malachite-like phases are two different local minima of the potential energy landscape for Co2CO3(OH)2 and are practically degenerate in energy, while the orthorhombic and triclinic structures are unstable and experience barrierless transformations to the malachite phase upon relaxation. The best fit to the PXRD data is obtained using a rosasite model [monoclinic with space group P1121/n and cell parameters a = 3.1408 (4) Å, b = 12.2914 (17) Å, c = 9.3311 (16) Šand γ = 82.299 (16)°]. However, some features of the PXRD pattern are still not well accounted for by this refinement and the residual parameters are relatively poor. The relationship between the rosasite and malachite phases of Co2CO3(OH)2 is discussed and it is shown that they can be seen as polytypes. Based on the similar calculated stabilities of these two polytypes, it is speculated that some level of stacking disorder could account for the poor fit of the PXRD data. The possibility that Co2CO3(OH)2 could crystallize, under different growth conditions, as either rosasite or malachite, or even as a stacking-disordered phase intermediate between the two, requires further investigation.
